Redmi, recently unveiled their new recent budget smartphones, Redmi Note 8 & the Note 8 Pro. But here we are gonna take a look at the Pro version. The Non-Pro version is a story for another time.
Build & Design
Redmi Note 8 Pro has a front and back Glass design with Corning’s Gorilla Glass 5. It has rounded corners and the curves at the back make it a phone that you will enjoy holding in your hands.
Redmi Note 8 Pro is available in 3 Colors:
1- Pearl White
2- Ice Emerald
3- Electric Light Grey
Note 8 Pro comes with FHD+ 6.53” IPS Display with a resolution of 1080*2340 and pixel density of 395ppi. It also has a teardrop notch which gives the user more screen estate to play with as the bezels are quite thin.
It feels good that Redmi has chosen a 1080p display which is enough for daily use and will also consume less battery.
What Powers The Redmi Note 8 Pro
Redmi Note 8 Pro is the first phone to be equipped with the Brand New Mediatek Helio G90T Processor, this is based on a 12nm process and is said to compete against the excellent Snapdragon 730.
Redmi Note 8 Pro comes in the following configurations:
6 GB RAM 64GB
6GB RAM 128GB
8GB RAM 128GB
This phone is sure to perform really good because the G90T seems to be capable of handling anything that we throw at it.
Base ram being 6 gigs is also a good thing, app opening times and multitasking should be also very smooth. Keeping the apps in the background shouldn’t be a problem as well as 6 gigs is a lot of Ram.
There is also plenty of storage in the upper variants of a 128gigs which is more than enough for most people in my opinion.
Redmi Note 8 Pro runs on Android 9 Pie with Xiaomi’s MIUI on top of it. It is a very heavy custom skin since it packs a lot of features and the performance is quite fast too. So, no complaints so far.
The main Highlighting feature of this camera is the surely the Quad Camera Setup on the back.
Redmi Note 8 Pro Consists of:
1- 64mp, f/1.8 Main Camera
2- 8mp, f/2.2 Ultrawide
3- 2mp, f/2.4 Macro
4- 2mp, f/2.4 Depth Sensor
The 64mp main camera is the main selling point of this camera because it’s the new Samsung GW1 Sensor. Its quality is truly amazing, the level of detail you get from the camera is just great.
As it is clear, from the above pictures, this camera boasts superb quality and it will prove a worthy competitor to the 48mp Sony IMX-586 sensor.
Now, talking about the front camera, Redmi Note 8 pro has 20mp, f/2.0 selfie camera.
The front camera should also be good because its Redmi we are talking about and in the past their cameras have been pretty good for their prices.
On the Video Front, Back Camera on the Redmi Note 8 pro can shoot up to:
With EIS (Electronic Image Stabilization).
Front camera can shoot up to 1080p 30fps.
Now, this is also a huge highlight for this mobile because it comes with a mammoth 4500mAh Battery and an 18W Fast Charger out of the box.
Considering the 1080p display, the 12nm processor and a 4500mAh battery size, the Redmi Note 8 Pro should give about 6 hours of Screen On Time Easily and with the Fast Charger, it would take less than 2 hours to charge.
We’re very happy to see that Redmi was able to deliver on a bigger battery.
Redmi Note 8 Pro charges via the USB Type-C port which is also a good thing.
Redmi Note 8 Pro has a Rear Mounted Fingerprint Scanner which should be really fast as with other Redmi Fingerprint Sensors.
Redmi Note 8 Pro comes with a Hybrid Sim Slot, which means that you will be able to put 1 Sim and an SD-CARD or 2 Sims at the same time. A triple slot would have been great but still, I wouldn’t complain that much because it still offers a tremendous value.
It also comes with Bluetooth 5.0 which is quite fast for data transferring and it has also support for NFC.
Main Takeaway Features:
1- A Very Fast Processor ( Helio G90T )
2- 64mp Main Camera
3- 4500mAh Battery
4- 18W Fast Charger
5- A Very Reasonable Price
Redmi Note 8 Pro starts at 13,999 Yuan in China.
It hasn’t released outside of China as of yet but is soon to launch in India and then, hopefully in Pakistan.
If we convert the Chinese Pricing to Pakistani Rupees then it converts to about 30,000 Rs. But it is possible to see an increment or decrement in the price depending upon the market.
If we consider the price to performance ratio then it is one of the most compelling offerings and is to compete for the Realme XT which also has the same 64mp Camera and Snapdragon 712 Processor. For more details click here.
We are really looking forward to the Redmi Note 8’s release in Pakistan.
This phone offers features that no other phone right now gives like a 64mp Camera, we are very excited about this phone.
Redmi has done a great job and it will be a very popular phone.
